CSI Berkeley, hosts reception at 2011 SEAOC in Las Vegas, Nevada

The Annual Convention of the Structural Engineers Association of California (2011 SEAOC) was held from 21 to 24 September 2011 at the luxurious JW Marriott Las Vegas Resort & Spa in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. The convention offered three high-caliber technical forums with over 45 presentations. 

The event concluded at the Bellagio with an exclusive, behind-the-curtain discussion on Cirque du Soleil’s surrealistic aquatic masterpiece, O. The discussion was led by O’s Special Effects Manager and Production Manager. 

On Friday evening, Berkeley, California-based Computers and Structures, Inc. (CSI) hosted a reception in honor of Prof. Edward L. Wilson and his contributions to the field of structural engineering. The reception, which coincided with Prof. Wilson’s 80th birthday, featured carving stations, sushi, hors d’oeuvres and a full bar and was followed by a full-length performance of Cirque du Soleil’s “O.” Prof. Wilson has been at the forefront of modern computerized structural analysis since the 1960s and is responsible for creating and implementing numerous methods for static and dynamic analysis that have revolutionized the way structural engineers work. Prof. Wilson taught structural and civil engineering at the University of California Berkeley for over 25 years.
