The British Embassy Bangkok, The State Enterprise Policy Office (SEPO), Infrastructure UK, and UK Trade and Investment organized a seminar on Public Private Partnerships (PPP) – Sharing UK and Thai Experiences and Expertise on 15 January 2015 at the Dusit Thani Hotel, Bangkok.
The seminar featured keynote speeches and presentations from senior officials from Infrastructure UK, part of the UK’s Finance Ministry that works on long-term infrastructure priorities and secures private sector investment and UK companies with world-leading experience of delivering international PPP projects.
Welcoming and opening remarks focused on Thailand’s PPP and how PPP can fund infrastructure investment and were delivered by His Excellency Mark Kent, British Ambassador to Thailand and Kulit Sombatsiri, Director-General of State Enterprise Policy Office.
The first topic “PPP Overview and Sharing of UK Experience” was presented by James Ballingall, Head of International, Infrastructure UK and Javier Encinas, Deputy Director of Infrastructure UK who discussed the benefits of PPP and how PPP can be implemented in Thailand.
Invited UK and Thai companies shared the private sector perspective in their respective presentations covering the legal, accounting, finance, and contractor perspectives on implementing PPP projects and the pitfalls to avoid.
Breakout sessions and case study-based workshops focused on two themes: infrastructure and transport and social infrastructure (hospitals, schools) were also organized.
Dr. Naveed Anwar, Executive Director, AIT Consulting attended the seminar on behalf of the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT). AIT offers capacity building training programs on PPP through its centers AIT Extension and AIT Consulting.
